POEMS: The Blessings of God & The Horn blower

The Blessings of God
The manifold blessings of God are seen
Through your own efforts, in acquiring knowledge,
Which may give you bread to eat;
And wisdom, which may protect you and your bread.
                                                                                                                J. A. ZEWU

The Horn blower
I saw him
On a graceful ‘Ahobaa’ Day;
His muscles bulged out,
He exhibited bravery and patriotism
By blowing the tunes of graceful songs
To awaken his ancestral gods
To dance to his melodious tunes.

His cloth was well rolled into his armpits.
He carefully positioned the horn on his lips
His hands supported the musical horn,
From which came the tuneful songs
That summoned his ancestral gods
To dance with frenzy.

The hornblower spoke to his ancestral gods,
He spoke to them in his musical language,
He told them to gather and enjoy themselves,
He told them to sing and dance
For there was a day for joy called “Ahobaa”.

The hornblower summoned his ancestral gods,
He did it in his musical language,
He told them to wake up and not sleep,
He told them to make the barren fruitful,
He told them to bring long life and prosperity,
He asked them to brandish their deadly swords,
And strike dead any intruder in the kingdom.
